Hey there! Urban underground is an event we set up to have a space where every genre of music is welcome. We've always found it hard to classify music into tight boxes and this evening is in a lot of ways against everything we've been told in marketing lessons. There is no one theme through the bands, no single genre, just great bands that love doing what they do.
We have five great acts lined up for the evening. But don't take our word for it, you can check out their music below.
The Sonic Alchemists are an improvised music group led by guitarist and composer Eshaan Sood. The groups sound strikes an immaculate balance between energetic grooves, spirited improvisation and soulful introspection. A storytelling experience at its core, the band's music pulls at the heart strings of listeners, jazz fans or otherwise.
This show marks the beginning of the New York chapter of the Sonic Alchemists featuring long time collaborator Sam Schaeffer on Drums and two exceptional additions to the Sonic Alchemists family with Aidan McCarthy on Bass and Naomi Nakamishi on piano.
Tyjhier is a 25 year old upcoming singer/songwriter born and raised in Syracuse, NY, but based in Brooklyn. Her unique blend of RNB and Neo Soul gives her music a quality that resembles a breath of fresh air, which is showcased beautifully in her projects "The In-Betweens" and "Bloom Where You're Planted." She takes inspiration from artists such as Cleo Sol, Stevie Wonder, and Sza.
Tyjhier has been featured on Syracuse.com and NYSmusic.com for being a new artist to look out for and is the winner of the 2024 SAMMY winner for Best New Artist and Best R&B Recording.
bim+bo (pronounced "bim plus bo") is an alternative soul band formed in Chicago, based in Brooklyn. The experimental duo began with producer and multi instrumentalist Blank Face Villain, and vocalist and dancer, Brittany Harlin. They performed alongside each other in Chicago's DIY scene, and have been collaborating since.
Blurring the line between heartfelt confessions and dance breaks, the ensemble invites both internal reflection and external release. Equal parts disco, punk rock, dance movement, and mixed martial arts, the group disarms with vulnerability and rebuilds with courage. The ensemble performs as a duo as well as a band, continuing to touch stages, delivering a breath of fresh air and inclusion in the conversation.
A brand new electric trio project led by guitarist Eshaan Sood, Figurines is a band that combines the energy of Rock music with the improvisational excitement of Jazz. After finding a voice for his folk influences in The Sonic Alchemists, Figurines was formed to give voice to all the Rock music Sood grew up with during his teenage years.
This is the band's debut performance. Will they Rock? Will they pack up and never play again? Only one way to find out.
